Robbie Keane hopeful of Euro 2016 place

Robbie Keane hopeful of Euro 2016 place

Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has said that his country can still reach Euro 2016 despite their mixed form in qualifying.

Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw by Scotland on Saturday evening, to make it four games without a win in Group D.

They are currently fourth in their qualifying group, with the top two countries getting an automatic spot at the tournament, while the team in third place will head to the playoffs.

Keane has admitted that it will be tough for the Irish to reach France, but he believes that wins against Gibraltar and Georgia in their next two games will help to boost their chances.

"We'll keep plugging away," he told Sky Sports News. "We're definitely not out of this and that was the message that everyone was saying to each other. There's no way we're out of this.

"Scotland still have a couple of tough games coming up. There are no easy games in the group, but in our next two games we'll be looking to get six points."

Keane has scored 65 goals in 140 appearances for Ireland.
