Martin O'Neil 'concerned' by low morale of Republic of Ireland players

Martin O'Neil is confident that his Republic of Ireland squad can put their club fortunes behind them, whether good or bad, prior to the crunch clash against Poland.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neil has told his players to focus solely on the task in hand when they take on Poland in a crucial Euro 2016 qualifying fixture this weekend.

A number of the Green Army squad have suffered disappointing seasons at club level, while O'Neil also has to contend with various injury problems to his squad.

John O'Shea, Ciaran Clark, Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy are among those who have seen their Premier League campaigns falter this term, and the Ireland boss admits that it is a minor concern.

"That's the nature of it," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "Someone asked me quite rightly about whether I'd be concerned about three or four players going into the side and of course you would, it would stand to reason. It is what it is.

"The players are up, ready to go, there's a good enthusiasm around them. A month or six weeks ago you start to formulate a few plans but you know those disappear when you pick up a few injuries along the way or maybe some people have a bit of club form.

"Some players are coming in absolutely fine form, others have had trials and tribulations at club level which is a bit of a concern but I think put that to the side, just think of us. Just think of the game ahead. If you are coming in great form, then fantastic. If it's not, then don't worry."

Ireland find themselves in fourth place in Group D, sitting level on points with both Scotland and Germany.
