Cristiano Ronaldo hails "fantastic night"

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has described Saturday's 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid as a "fantastic night" for the club.

The Portuguese scored the opener at the Santiago Bernabeu as Los Blancos closed the gap on their local rivals in the La Liga table.

"It was a fantastic night for us," Ronaldo told the club's official website. "We played well and we scored two goals. It was a very important win for us.

"We expected a very hard game but we were better than them. It's always good to win the derby and that's what we have to take away from this."

Despite the win, third-placed Madrid are still 11 points behind leaders Barcelona in the table.
