Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Getafe

Real Madrid injury, suspension list vs. Getafe

Real Madrid will play their first match of 2020 on Saturday as they travel to Getafe in Spain's top flight.

Los Blancos entered the winter break in Spain off the back of three straight La Liga draws, which left them second in the table, two points off leaders Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane's side have only lost one of their 18 league matches during the 2019-20 campaign, although seven draws has cost them the chance to lead the division at this stage of the season.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Madrid's latest injury and suspension news ahead of this weekend's clash in the Spanish capital.

Marco Asensio

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Marco Asensio faces a battle to play again this season after suffering a serious knee injury during the team's preparations for the 2019-20 campaign. A timeframe on his return has not yet been set by the club.

James Rodriguez

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: January 4 (vs. Getafe)

James Rodriguez, who continues to be linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, has not turned out for Madrid since October 22 due to a knee injury. The Colombia international has recently returned to full training, though, and could be fit to play a part against Getafe.

Lucas Vazquez

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Toe Possible return date: January 4 (vs. Getafe)

Lucas Vazquez missed the latter stages of 2019 after suffering a fractured toe in his left foot during a session in the gym. The Spaniard took part in a section of the club's opening training session on Monday, though, and could be involved this weekend.

Eden Hazard

Status: Out Type of injury: Fractured ankle Possible return date: Unknown

Eden Hazard has not turned out for Madrid since suffering an ankle injury against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at the end of November. The Belgium international has not yet returned to training and will therefore not be involved in his team's first match of 2020.

Marcelo

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: January 4 (vs. Getafe)

Marcelo missed Madrid's final five matches of 2019 with a calf injury; the 31-year-old did take part in a section of the club's training session on Monday, though, suggesting that he is not too far away from a return.

REAL MADRID'S SUSPENSION LIST

Sergio Ramos

Status: Suspended Possible return date: January 8 (vs. Valencia)

Madrid will be unable to call upon the services of their skipper this weekend, with Sergio Ramos suspended courtesy of the yellow card that he picked up against Athletic Bilbao last time out.
