Verratti 'flattered' by Guardiola praise

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has expressed his delight at the praise received by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

After the Italian starred for PSG in their 2-0 victory over the Citizens in the Champions League last month, Guardiola declared his "love" for the 28-year-old, labelling him as an "exceptional" player.

Verratti has since responded, stating how pleased he is to have received such praise from a figure as respected as Guardiola is in the world of football.

"These are certainly words that please me. He is a person who understands football, who is good for football and one of those who gives us pleasure with football. So, yes, I am happy," Verratti told France Info.

Verratti has also spoken about his future with PSG and when he was asked about life in Paris and beyond football, the midfielder said: "I have a little time left. What I do know is that I will always stay here.

"I had the chance to play with and against great champions, in great matches, that's what I wanted above all. I fell in love with this club and that's why I always try to give the maximum, to return the confidence that I have been given."

Verratti has made 350 appearances across all competitions for PSG, winning 27 domestic trophies, including seven Ligue 1 titles.
