St Louis City vs Nashville - prediction, team news, lineups

St Louis City and Nashville SC will both be eager to get back to winning ways when they clash at the Energizer Park on Sunday in the latest round of MLS fixtures.

The hosts will be keen to avoid a fourth straight loss in the league, while the visitors will be looking for their first league win on the road in three fixtures.

Match preview

A 2-1 defeat to Minnesota United last weekend condemned St Louis City to a second consecutive loss in the league and their 14th in the 2025 campaign.

After a 12th-place finish in the previous season, fans of the St Louis outfit would have been optimistic about their team's chances of making it to the playoff this term, following their unbeaten run in the first four matches of the season.

However, their current form is a far cry from the impressive run they showed at the start of the season, having managed to win only two of the following 20 MLS fixtures since then.

Central to their problems this term is their defensive frailties, as they have failed to keep a clean sheet since April 20, shipping 33 goals in that time.

Worse still, the hosts have conceded 15 goals in the final quarter of their games, and they will have to maintain maximum concentration if they are to have a fighting chance.

Elsewhere, Nashville lost 1-0 to San Diego last time out, recording their sixth loss of the regular season.

The visiting side had an inconsistent start to the 2025 season, but they have stabilised and are currently third in the Eastern Conference standings with 47 points across 25 matches.

The Coyotes have been very consistent, recording the second-most victories (14), with only Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati having more wins, both earning 15 victories in the Eastern Conference.

Although Brian Joseph Callaghan’s men have lost their two league fixtures on the road, their unbeaten run between May and June, which includes four wins and two draws, cannot be waved away.

Team News

Rasmus Alm will be missing in action when these two sides clash on Sunday, as he is currently out with a hip injury.

Chris Durkin will also not feature in the matchday plans, as he is suspended for this fixture.

Henry Kessler (hamstring), Joakim Nilsson (knee) and Michael Wentzel (thigh) are also not expected to be in Callaghan’s plans for Sunday.

For the away side, Tyler Boyd, Washington Taylor and Maximus Ekk are all struck with knee injuries and are definitely out of this contest.

Tate Schmitt is currently recuperating from a hamstring injury, meaning this fixture will come too early for him.

St Louis City possible starting lineup:

Burki; Lowen, Padelford, Baumgartel, Wallem; Sang-Bin, Orozco; Hartel, Klauss, Ostrak; Pompeu

Nashville SC possible starting lineup:

Willis; Najar, Lovitz, Yazbek, Palacios; Zimmerman, Perez, Tagseth, Surridge; Mukhtar, Muyl

We say: St Louis City 1-2 Nashville SC

The home side have been struggling for most of the season, and with Nashville coming to town, their woeful run in the league is likely to continue. Therefore, given the superiority of the away side, we predict a 2-1 win for the Coyotes.
