Rotherham United thwart three-goal Preston North End comeback

Lee Frecklington scores an 89th-minute equaliser to earn Rotherham a 3-3 draw with Preston, who had overturned an early two-goal deficit to lead late on at Deepdale.

Lee Frecklington scored an 89th-minute equaliser to snatch Rotherham United a 3-3 draw with playoff rivals Preston North End, who had come from two goals down to lead at Deepdale.

The visitors netted twice in the first 11 minutes before Craig Davies pegged them back before the interval, and further goals from Paul Gallagher and Joe Garner completed the Preston revival.

However, Frecklington thwarted their second-half turnaround with a late leveller.

United opened the scoring with the first attack of the game as James Tavernier slipped the ball into the path of Frecklington to score his eighth of the season with a shot into the roof of the net.

The Millers had doubled their advantage four minutes later when Tom Clarke flicked a free kick into his own net, and home goalkeeper Adam Collin was called upon to prevent Kieran Agard or Alex Revell adding a third.

Preston's comeback began in the 37th minute when Bolton wanders loanee Davies was picked out by a clever back-heel from Gallagher, and prodded the ball under the onrushing Collin.

Gallagher added his own name to the scoresheet on the hour mark when he turned on the edge of the box to curl the ball into the bottom corner, and Garner's header put them ahead for the first time.

He climbed highest at the back post to nod in Chris Humphrey's delivery on 65 minutes to put Preston on course for a victory which would end their opponents' seven-match unbeaten run.

However, a goalmouth scramble on the eve of stoppage time led to Rotherham securing a point, and it was Frecklington who eventually converted from Collin's long punt as he fired through a congested area.
