Michael Doyle: 'Winning promotion with Portsmouth all that counts'

Portsmouth captain Michael Doyle insists that the form of the team counts more than the display of individual players, having helped the club up to fourth place.

Michael Doyle has insisted that his impressive recent performances will count for little unless he can guide Portsmouth out of League Two.

The 34-year-old has stood out for Pompey of late, which is reflected in the South Coast club's run of one defeat in their last nine outings.

Doyle will not be happy until he guides Portsmouth back into the third tier, though, claiming that he is willing to sacrifice all that he has on the field of play to earn promotion this season.

"I'm not one to worry too much about my own form," Portsmouth News quotes the skipper as saying. "I have always been about the team. I'm happy but I will be happier when we are top of the league or we win the league.

"I came here to get promoted, to win this league. I'm quite open about saying that, and I know how much it would mean to people and I know how much it would mean to me. The sacrifices that you make through the year will hopefully be worth it."

Portsmouth, currently fourth in the League Two table, head to fellow promotion hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.
