Stevenage will be aiming to make it four straight wins at the start of the 2025-26 League One campaign when they continue their season with a clash against Port Vale on Tuesday night.

Alex Revell's side currently sit at the top of the League One table on nine points, while the hosts are down in 19th, having only picked up two points from their opening three games of the season.

Match preview

Port Vale will be aiming to record their first victory of the 2025-26 League One campaign on Tuesday, having drawn two and lost one of their opening three matches, which has left them down in 19th on two points.

Darren Moore's side finished second in League Two last season to secure promotion to the third tier, and their main aim for this term is to avoid relegation back to the fourth level of English football.

Port Vale opened their season with a 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United, and they have since drawn 0-0 with Cardiff City and Burton Albion, in addition to recording a 1-0 victory over Blackpool in the League Cup.

Vale have been busy during this summer's transfer window, with Jordan Gabriel and Ben Waine among those to arrive, but there could be more new players before the summer market closes.

Incredibly, 11 of the previous 21 matches between Port Vale and Stevenage have finished all square, including a 2-2 draw when the pair last locked horns in League One in February 2024.

Stevenage, meanwhile, were beaten 3-1 by Charlton Athletic in the League Cup last week, but they have made an excellent start to their 2025-26 League One campaign, picking up three wins from three matches.

Revell's side opened their season with a 3-2 win over Blackpool before recording a 1-0 victory over Rotherham United; the Boro then beat Northampton Town 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Stevenage finished 14th in League One last season, so there is plenty of room for improvement this term, and they have shown plenty of positive signs in the early stages of the new campaign.

Revell's team have also been busy during the summer market, with Jordan Houghton and Bez Lubala among their additions, while they have also managed to sign Chem Campbell and Filip Marschall from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa respectively to boost their squad for the 2025-26 campaign.

Team News

Port Vale will be without the services of George Byers on Tuesday night, with the captain sent off in just the 15th minute of the contest with Burton on Saturday afternoon.

Byers's absence is expected to open the door for Jordan Shipley to come into the XI here.

The rest of the side could be unchanged from their clash with Burton, meaning another start in the final third of the field for Ronan Curtis, but Mo Faal is an option for change.

As for Stevenage, no fresh injury problems have been reported from their clash with Northampton, and it would not be a surprise to see the same XI take to the field here.

Jamie Reid has made an excellent start to the season, scoring three times in four appearances, and he will again be in the side, while Dan Kemp - two goals this term - will also be in the starting team.

Jordan Roberts, meanwhile, is also in line to feature in the final third of the field.

Port Vale possible starting lineup:

Marosi; Humphreys, Hall, Debrah; Clark, Croasdale, Ojo, Shipley, Gordon; Tolaj, Curtis

Stevenage possible starting lineup:

Marschall; James-Wildin, Goode, Piergianni, Butler; White, Houghton; Roberts, Kemp, Campbell; Reid

We say: Port Vale 1-2 Stevenage

Stevenage have been impressive in the early stages of the 2025-26 League One campaign, and we are backing the visitors to make it four wins from four games with a narrow success on Tuesday night.
