Stuart Pearce: 'Dorus de Vries could earn new Nottingham Forest deal'

Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce says that goalkeeper Dorus de Vries could earn himself a new contract at the club if he maintains his current form.

Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce has revealed that Dorus de Vries could earn himself a new contract at the club if he maintains his current form.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has impressed since being handed a place in the side ahead of the highly-rated Karl Darlow, making crucial saves in games against Derby County and Fulham.

With Darlow set to join Newcastle United and De Vries out of contract in the summer, Pearce admits that fresh terms for the Dutchman are not out of the question.

"I have not had a conversation with him yet about next season or a new contract, not yet. But if he keeps delivering performances like that for me, he is only going to make his case stronger," Pearce told the Nottingham Post.

"It was a wonderful save from him against Derby, it was reminiscent of Peter Shilton. It really was. That tip over the bar was outstanding. He gave us an air of composure."

Former Swansea City and Wolverhampton Wanderers man De Vries joined Forest on a free transfer in July 2013.
