Nottingham Forest transfer news: Signing of international goalkeeper confirmed, contract length revealed

'I can add something': Nottingham Forest sign international goalkeeper on free transfer

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a free transfer.

Reports have indicated that Nuno Espirito Santo's current priority is adding a new central midfielder to his first-team squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

However, it was revealed on Wednesday afternoon that the next player through the door at the City Ground would be Gunn.

The Scotland international's second stint at Norwich City, which lasted four years, reached a conclusion at the end of 2024-25.

Just 42 goals goals were conceded in 35 Championship appearances for the Canaries, but he will now return to the Premier League.

Gunn speaks on Nottingham Forest transfer

Speaking to the club's official website, the 29-year-old suggested that he was not prepared to settle for being backup to Matz Sels during his one-year contract.

Gunn said: "I am really happy to be here. This is a historic Club on an exciting journey and I’m looking forward to being a part of it and getting to work.

"I’m joining a good group of keepers, and I believe my experience will add something to the team. I can’t wait to get going."

With Carlos Miguel potentially departing Forest after just a year at the club, it is plausible that Gunn quickly becomes chief deputy to Sels.

Forest have already strengthened their defensive and attacking contingent this summer with the signings of Jair Cunha, Dan Ndoye and Igor Jesus.

Why is Gunn important signing for Forest?

As well as being a 16-cap international with Scotland, Gunn has racked up 197 appearances in the Premier League and Championship.

An impressive 54 clean sheets have been kept in those competitions, while adding a homegrown talent to the squad for nothing represents a considerable coup.

Forest spent £3.4m to sign Miguel last summer and will likely look to recoup that fee before the September 1 deadline.
