Romanian side lose 31-0 to lower league opposition

A Romanian second division side has lost 31-0 to a third division team in the cup.

CS Buftea fielded a side of teenagers for the match, but their team selection backfired when opponents ACS Berceni embarked on an unprecedented goal glut.

Cash-strapped Buftea, who were promoted to the second division last season, named much of their Under-19 side in the first team and found themselves 12-0 down at half-time before going on to concede another 19 in the second half.

"I'm ashamed to tell you the score," ACS Berceni president Stephen Stana told local media.

"But it's not our fault that they disregarded the competition."

The scoreline is believed to be a record in Romanian football history.
