Referee Michael Oliver replaces official, runs line in game officiated by wife

Michael Oliver joins wife Lucy in helping to officiate Thursday's Continental Cup game between Arsenal Ladies and Reading FC Women after the original linesman suffers injury.

Referee Michael Oliver was pulled from the crowd to help run the line in Thursday's Continental Cup game between Arsenal Ladies and Reading FC Women following an injury to one of the officials.

A call came over the tannoy at half time for any qualified assistant referees and Oliver, who is a regular international and Premier League referee, stepped up.

Coincidentally, the referee for the match at Meadow Park was none other than Oliver's wife, Lucy Oliver.

Arsenal went on to win 2-1, with goals coming from Casey Stoney and Vicky Losada, while Nicola Watts grabbed a consolation goal for Reading.
