Redknapp: England distraction is nonsense

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has slammed suggestions that his team's dip in form is due to the speculation linking the 65-year-old to the England job.

The former Portsmouth boss, who is the overwhelming favourite to lead the Three Lions on a permanent basis, launched a fierce response claiming that his players "don't care" if he is manager of Spurs next season.

"[It's] absolute nonsense," said Redknapp. "That is the biggest load of nonsense I've ever heard in my life. They don't care if I'm the manager next year, they wouldn't lose any sleep over that or whoever comes [in] - that's football.

"Footballers are footballers. They play the game, they come in every day and train. [If] someone walks in here tomorrow, the king is dead long live the king.

"They don't worry, 'oh Harry's going to England or he's going somewhere else' - it doesn't happen that way. I've been around football all my life, it doesn't happen that way. It never enters my mind, I don't think 'oh what's going to happen to me at the end of the season?'. I don't lose any sleep over it one way or the other. Whether I'm here, somewhere else or nowhere. It's life."

Tottenham have only managed to clinch one point out of their last four Premier League matches.
