FIFA announce new president will be elected on February 26 in Zurich

The election for a new FIFA president will be held in Zurich on February 26, 2016, the world governing body confirms.

FIFA's executive committee has announced that a new president will be elected in Zurich on February 26, 2016.

In June, current president Sepp Blatter announced his plan to step down amid allegations of corruption.

Two months ago, 14 people, including nine football officials, were arrested by the US and Swiss authorities on suspicion of paying or receiving more than $100m (£64m) in bribes from the 1990s to the present day.

In today's meeting in Zurich, it was decided that an extraordinary elective FIFA congress will meet in February to vote on who will succeed Blatter.

Prince Ali, who ran for the presidency in May, has called on Blatter to stand down immediately.
