Roy Keane slams "out of shape" Wayne Rooney

Roy Keane slams Wayne Rooney after Manchester United's draw with PSV Eindhoven, saying that the striker looks out of shape both mentally and physically.

Roy Keane has criticised Wayne Rooney's performance in Manchester United's 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday and said that the England captain looks out of shape both physically and mentally.

United toiled to a goalless draw with the Dutch side at Old Trafford to leave their hopes of progressing to the knockout round of the Champions League hanging in the balance.

Rooney was again frustrated during the match as his recent poor goalscoring record continued, and former United skipper Keane believes that the striker is struggling to maintain any kind of form.

"Mentally he does not look sharp, physically he does not look in a great shape. He has to have a look at himself," Keane told ITV Sport.

"Wayne was on about lack of composure and quality, and he was as guilty as anybody. He needs to step up to the plate. If you are not at it yourself then you have to have a look and lead by example. He did not do that tonight.

"Wayne's legacy at Manchester United is absolutely fantastic. His goals record is brilliant, but now that he is the captain there is a bit more responsibility and he has to do a lot more."

Rooney has scored just twice in 11 Premier League games this season, although he has netted four times in his five Champions League appearances.
