Former Bundesliga ref found dead

Former Bundesliga referee Manford Amerell has been found dead in his home in Munich.

Amerell officiated in Germany's top league during the 1980s and 1990s before joining the German FA (DFB) as a spokesman for match officials.

The DFB confirmed that a post-mortem has been undertaken, although they are not treating the death as suspicious or suicide.

"According to local police commissioner Frank Hellwig, before the post-mortem there was 'no evidence of an accident, suicide or foul play'," read a statement.

Amerell quit his post earlier this year following allegations of sexual harassment against against a young Bundesliga referee, claims that he unequivocally denied.
