Blatter: Arrests tried to "interfere" with election'

Sepp Blatter has said that a series of arrests ahead of the FIFA presidential election was an attempt to "interfere with Congress".

A number of high-ranking FIFA officials were arrested on Wednesday following an investigation by US authorities into corruption in the organisation.

Following his re-election, the 79-year-old admitted to Swiss TV channel RTS that he thought it was an attempt to "interfere" with the vote, before adding: "I am not certain but it doesn't smell good."

Blatter was elected for a fifth straight term after Prince Ali withdrew from the race ahead of a second round of voting.
