Ajax vs. AZ Alkmaar to be replayed

The recently abandoned Dutch Cup clash between Ajax and AZ Alkmaar will be replayed next month.

Play was halted 36 minutes into the game at the Amsterdam ArenA last week when a fan entered the field of play and attempted to attack AZ goalkeeper Esteban.

The keeper retaliated against his assailant, prompting referee Bas Nijhuis to send him off.

As a result, AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek ordered his players off the field in protest against the decision.

The two teams will meet again behind closed doors on Thursday, January 19.

Ajax were leading the tie 1-0 at the time of the abandonment.
