Player Ratings: Newcastle United 3-3 Burnley

Sports Mole rates the performance of every player as Newcastle United draw 3-3 with Burnley at St James' Park.

Newcastle United caretaker manager John Carver was denied victory as a determined display from Burnley secured a 3-3 draw for the visitors at St James' Park.

Steven Taylor headed Newcastle into the lead before Paul Dummett's own goal levelled the scores, and another lead for the hosts was thrown away when Danny Ings cancelled out Jack Colback's fine strike.

Burnley were forced to come from behind for a third time, with George Boyd making the key contribution in the 86th minute after Moussa Sissoko had made it 3-2 eight minutes earlier.

Goal

Jak Alnwick: The youngster made a couple of good saves, but he'll probably feel he should have kept out Boyd's late equaliser. (5/10)

Defence

Daryl Janmaat: The Dutchman has been one of Newcastle's star performers recently, but he wasn't at his best this afternoon. A couple of errors invited pressure on his wing in the second half when Burnley were on top. (5/10)

Steven Taylor: Headed Newcastle in front early on, and he led by example at the back before dealing a blow to the hosts when he limped off on the hour mark. (6/10)

Fabricio Coloccini: Started impressively to keep Burnley's front two quiet, but he was troubled by the movement of Ings after the break as the visitors dominated. (6/10)

Paul Dummett: Approached his task with his usual enthusiasm, but he'll be having nightmares tonight after gifting Burnley a goal with a header over Alnwick in the 19th minute. (5/10)

Midfield

Cheick Tiote: Comfortable in the first half as he got on the ball on a regular basis, but he allowed the game to pass him by when Burnley's midfield hit back after the break. Made a couple of important tackles late on, though. (6/10)

Jack Colback: Neat and tidy in possession in midfield, and he delighted the crowd with his second goal in a week by firing home from the edge of the box in the first half. (7/10)

Moussa Sissoko: The best player on the pitch. His pace and power in midfield caused Burnley plenty of problems, and he hit back after a quiet spell by scoring with a calm finish late on. Newcastle need to keep hold of him this month. (8/10)

Attack

Ayoze Perez: Unable to get on the ball as much as he would have liked, but his one key contribution was of high quality as he displayed great skill before crossing for Sissoko's goal. (6/10)

Emmanuel Rivere: Given a start in place of the suspended Papiss Cisse, but it was a disappointing afternoon as he struggled to find the space he craves. (5/10)

Yoan Gouffran: A poor performance from the Frenchman as he missed a number of good chances to deliver crosses after finding space on the wing. No surprise to see him removed in the second half. (5/10)

Substitutes

Adam Armstrong: The youngster was a passenger for long spells as Burnley controlled the second half, but he offered a good outlet by chasing down every ball forward. (5/10)

Mike Williamson: Introduced on the hour mark as a replacement for the injured Taylor, but he made a couple of errors in his attempt to handle Barnes. (5/10)

Massadio Haidara: Rarely involved after coming on in the 57th minute, but put in a good shift in a dramatic second half. (5/10)

BURNLEY

Goal

Tom Heaton: Not given a chance with any of the three goals, and wasn't asked to do much else despite Newcastle's dominance in the first half. (5/10)

Defence

Kieran Trippier: Growing into a very good Premier League defender. Forced to swap wings due to injury in the first half, but he never put a foot wrong on a fine afternoon at the office. (7/10)

Michael Keane: Solid performance from the central defender, who led the back four well as his teammates dropped like flies around him. (6/10)

Jason Shackell: The Burnley skipper lasted just 17 minutes before being forced off with an injury. (4/10)

Ben Mee: Unlucky not to score when he rattled the crossbar with a header. Coped well after being forced to move into the centre of defence. (7/10)

Midfield

David Jones: Struggled to cope with Sissoko's pace and power, but he saw more of the ball in the second half as Burnley improved as the match progressed. (6/10)

Dean Marney: Replaced in the 32nd minute after unsuccessfully attempting to play through illness. (4/10)

Scott Arfield: Played an important role in Burnley's resurgence in the second half. Put in a great shift at both ends of the pitch to provide the visitors with defensive cover. (7/10)

George Boyd: Quickly becoming a key player for Burnley with his creativity in the final third of the pitch. Always eager to get involved, and he secured a point with a calmly-taken goal late on. (7/10)

Attack

Danny Ings: Struck the crossbar with one fine effort, before finding the net with a clever flicked header to make it 2-2. Another impressive display from the forward, who was forced to create his own chances for much of the game. (7/10)

Ashley Barnes: Frustrated in front of goal as he hit the woodwork on two occasions, but his determination to create chances for others will be appreciated by Sean Dyche. (6/10)

Substitutes

Kevin Long: A miserable debut for the defender, who was forced off with an injury just 20 minutes after replacing Shackell. (4/10)

Michael Kightly: Replaced Marney in the 32nd minute, and he produced the type of performance required to earn a start in the future. Lively on the wings with his clever runs, but he was willing to come inside to get involved too. (7/10)

Steven Reid: Filled in at right-back when Long was taken off. A typically solid performance, and his experience was vital in the second half. (6/10)
