Alan Pardew admits that his side can play much better after an average start to their league campaign.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has insisted that his side can rediscover their best form this season.

The Magpies' start to the new season has been an underwhelming one after their impressive form last year.

Many believe the squad needed strengthening with Europa League fixtures now in the equation. However, despite the concern, Pardew believes that his side will soon start playing much better football.

"Yes, of course I think our team can play better - and I think we will," said Pardew.

"I think our results have been solid. The performances have not been as good as I would have liked at this stage.

"But all the teams at the start of the season, you are feeling your way and hopefully in the coming weeks, we have got some games where I think we can pick up points, and we have to start on Monday night [against Everton]."

Newcastle currently sit in 10th place, with four points from their opening three games.
