Newcastle United keen on French youngster

Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on the signature of Reims midfielder Romain Amalfitano, according to L'Equipe

The 22-year-old, who started his career at Ligue 1 side Evian, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Amalfitano, the younger brother of Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano, moved to second-tier club Reims in 2010.

The Frenchman has since made 52 appearances, scoring six goals.
