The Well boss is wary of a new-look St Mirren squad.

Stephen Robinson has welcomed Motherwell's return to form but wants their focus to remain strong against struggling St Mirren.

The Steelmen have won four Ladbrokes Premiership games in a row for the first time this season – punctuated by a home William Hill Scottish Cup defeat by Ross County.

However Buddies boss Oran Kearney, in his attempt to steer St Mirren away from the bottom of the table, where they now trail Dundee by two points, added a whole new team of players to his squad during the January transfer window.

Robinson said: "I think we have to be guarded.

"There is not a lot between any team in this league. There are small margins.

"Our turnaround in form has been because of the clean sheets because we have had a settled back four.

"When games are close and scrappy, we have boys at the top end of the pitch who can go and win football matches. So that is the advantage we have.

"St Mirren have signed a lot of players, they have tried to do that and there is a little bit of an unknown quantity about them at the moment so we will have to be well prepared for that and it is going to be a tough, tough game."

Robinson is not getting carried away with his side's return to form, which has taken them level on points with eighth-placed Livingston.

He said: "I don't get too up with winning.

"We have won four in a row and stayed very focused. We lost a few games and everyone is crying crisis.

"This is Motherwell, there is slow steps all the time.

"I am confident in the players and confident in the coaching staff and our ability.

"Our thought process didn't waver, no. The only people we can take care of is ourselves.

"It is a big game on Wednesday night. We have a little bit of consistency to our game. Our performances have been good.

"We need to produce that again away to St Mirren – a tough game, they are battling for their lives, a lot of new signings – so to look upwards you have to get points from those games."
