Ruben Amorim future: Will under-pressure Man United head coach jump before he is pushed?

The end is in sight: Will Amorim jump before he is pushed by Man United?

Manchester United chiefs are reportedly fearful that head coach Ruben Amorim will decide to resign due to his ongoing struggles at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese has won 18, drawn 12 and lost 19 of his 49 matches in charge of the 20-time English champions since his arrival as head coach last November.

Amorim's win rate is down at 36.7%, and there is currently widespread speculation surrounding his future, with Man United losing again last weekend, going down 3-1 at Brentford in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have been beaten in four of their seven games in all competitions this season, and they are currently down in 14th spot in the Premier League table, picking up seven points from six matches.

Man United, despite their struggles, allegedly have no plans to sack Amorim at this stage, with the Portuguese currently preparing to lead the team into Saturday's Premier League clash with Sunderland.

Man United 'fear' Amorim could resign as head coach

However, according to inews, Man United chiefs believe that Amorim could decide to walk away in the coming weeks in order to preserve his managerial career.

Amorim is said to be shocked by the constant criticism of him, but Man United's minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains determined to give the ex-Sporting Lisbon head coach a full season in charge.

The fact that Man United had a free week to prepare for the Brentford clash and then put in that level of performance has led to heavy criticism of Amorim and his methods.

The manager's 3-4-3 system continues to be criticised, but the 40-year-old has made it clear on multiple occasions that he will not be changing his formation despite the team's struggles.

Man United vs. Sunderland: Red Devils are looking to continue their strong run against the Black Cats

Man United will be aiming to give their supporters something to shout about ahead of the October international break, with the Red Devils hosting Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The 20-time English champions have won four of their last five Premier League matches against Sunderland, including victories when the pair last locked horns during the 2016-17 campaign.

Sunderland last beat Man United in February 2016, running out 2-1 winners, while the Black Cats recorded a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in May 2014, with Seb Larsson netting the only goal of the contest.

In total, Man United and Sunderland have locked horns on 145 occasions in all competitions, with the former boasting 65 wins to the latter's 42, while 38 of their fixtures have finished all square.
