Wayne Rooney: "Robin van Persie or Luis Suarez should have won PFA award"

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that Robin van Persie or Luis Suarez should have been named PFA Player of the Year instead of Gareth Bale.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that teammate Robin van Persie or Liverpool striker Luis Suarez should have been named PFA Player of the Year instead of Gareth Bale.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger won the accolade along with the Young Player of the Year award on Sunday night following a fantastic season in which he has scored 19 goals in the Premier League.

Rooney wrote on Twitter: "Congrats to Gareth Bale on winning both awards tonight. I think Van Persie or Suarez should of won it though."

The England international also hailed teammate David de Gea as he was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

He added: "Buzzing De Gea was in team of year. Yes David well deserved."

Rooney was part of the Manchester United team that secured the club's 20th league title last week when they beat Aston Villa 3-0.
