Nani: 'Manchester United exit not a step back'

Manchester United winger Nani insists that joining Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan will not damage his career.

Manchester United winger Nani has insisted that his loan move to Sporting Lisbon is not a step back in his career.

The Portuguese international, 27, returned to his former club last month as part of the deal that saw Sporting defender Marcos Rojo join United.

Despite doubts over whether he has a future at Old Trafford, Nani believes that he will still be able to develop at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

"I do not think that it's a step back," he told Tutto Mercato. "I had other options but I decided to play at this club. It was my choice."

Nani started his professional career with Sporting in 2005 before moving to United two years later.
