Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho praises Sir Alex Ferguson on his Old Trafford silver anniversary, describing the Scot as "unique".

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has added to the wealth of praise for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson on the Scot's silver anniversary at Old Trafford.

The football world has been paying tribute to Ferguson, who turns 70 on New Year's Eve and has won 37 trophies in his time with the Red Devils.

Mourinho, 48, was one of Ferguson's toughest touchline counterparts during his time at Chelsea when he won two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.

"Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of Manchester United," Mourinho said.

"Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of English football.

"And Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of European football."

The Portuguese coach also said Ferguson should stay at Old Trafford for as long as possible, adding: "I really wish he stays in the job with the same happiness and ambition for many, many more years."

Mourinho's Madrid are currently top of La Liga, one point ahead of Barcelona.
