Manchester United 'sound out' Ajax manager Erik ten Hag ahead of a possible approach for the Dutchman, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly 'sounded out' Ajax's Erik ten Hag, with the Red Devils keen to confirm the appointment of a new manager before the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Current interim head coach Ralf Rangnick will step aside for the arrival of a new head coach in the coming months, and Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino continues to be linked with the role.

PSG's exit from the Champions League has strengthened suggestions that Pochettino could be on his way to Old Trafford, with the French giants thought to be considering sacking him.

However, Ten Hag also continues to be linked with the position, and according to Sky Sports News, Man United have 'sounded out' the 52-year-old through intermediaries.

The report claims that the 20-time English champions are yet to open a direct line of communication, but the Ajax manager would be 'very keen' to speak to the club if an approach arrives.

Ten Hag, like Pochettino, has a contract with his club until June 2023, making it more complicated for Man United to acquire him ahead of next season.

The Dutchman, who is also believed to have admirers at Manchester City, has won two league titles and two KNVB Cups since arriving at Ajax in 2017.
