Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is withdrawn from the England squad after been handed a 21-month suspended prison sentence in Greece.

Harry Maguire has been withdrawn from Gareth Southgate's England squad after being found guilty of all charges following an altercation with police on the Greek island of Mykonos.

The Manchester United captain was handed a 21-month suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery while on holiday with friends and family.

Maguire has already announced his intention to appeal the verdict, but he has now been withdrawn from the England squad just hours after being included for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Iceland and Denmark.

"In light of this evening's developments, I can confirm I have withdrawn Harry Maguire from the England squad for the matches against Iceland and Denmark," read a statement from Southgate.

"As I said earlier today, I reserved the right to review the situation. Having spoken to Manchester United and the player, I have made this decision in the best interests of all parties and with consideration of the impact on our preparations for next week."

Maguire, 27, has won 26 caps for England since making his debut in 2017.
