Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester City

Man United injury, suspension list vs. Man City

Manchester United will bid to move one step closer to silverware on Wednesday night when they host Manchester City in the EFL Cup semi-finals.

Despite their early exit from the Champions League, United are currently on a high after moving level on points with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

However, the mood at Old Trafford could change for the worse if they do not get the better of their neighbours, who are the defending champions in this competition.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the derby showdown between the two English giants.

Victor Lindelof

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Back Possible return date: January 6 (vs. Man City)

Lindelof has spent the Christmas and New Year period receiving treatment for a lingering back injury. While the defender could return on Wednesday, Solskjaer is unlikely to take any risks on the Sweden international.

Phil Jones

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

At a time when he is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, Jones will not be considered for selection. Nevertheless, the centre-back is still recovering from a long-standing knee injury.

Marcos Rojo

Status: Out Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: January 9 (vs. Watford)

While Solskjaer has spoken of Rojo potentially returning in January, the Argentina international is another player being linked with a move away from the club. With that in mind, no risks will be taken on the defender's calf injury.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S SUSPENSION LIST

Edinson Cavani

Return date: January 12 (vs. Burnley)

Having been found guilty of posting an offensive comment on social media, Cavani has been handed a three-match suspension by the Football Association. The Uruguay international will be available for selection once he has sat out the FA Cup tie with Watford on January 9.
