Manchester United suffer Marcus Rashford injury blow in Liverpool clash

Man United suffer Rashford injury blow in Liverpool clash

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was forced off the field during his side's Premier League contest with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The England international returned to the starting side for the clash against Jurgen Klopp's team, having dropped down to the bench for last week's game with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Rashford played 66 minutes of the fixture before being replaced by Antony, and he looked in discomfort when leaving the field.

At this stage, the extent of the 26-year-old's issue is unclear, but head coach Erik ten Hag is expected to address the situation when he speaks during his post-match press conference.

Liverpool led 1-0 at the interval of Sunday's Premier League contest, with Luis Diaz finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute.

However, the Reds passed up a number of chances to score a second, and the score became 1-1 early in the second period courtesy of a long-range effort from Bruno Fernandes.

Kobbie Mainoo then sent Man United ahead in the 67th minute, but Liverpool secured a share of the spoils in the latter stages courtesy of a penalty from Mohamed Salah.

Man United will now have to assess Rashford's fitness ahead of next weekend's trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The 20-time English champions will then be back in action against Coventry City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on April 21.

Mainoo said after the match that he was "disappointed" that his side were unable to hold onto all three points at Old Trafford.

Mainoo claims "minor mistakes" cost his side at Old Trafford

"Disappointed to be honest. I think we performed really well in the second half. The lads made minor mistakes and if we iron them out then we win the game," Mainoo told Sky Sports News.

"It's an unbelievable feeling to score my first Old Trafford goal and to do it in this fixture was even more special. We didn't get the three points and that's the main thing.

"Mistakes happen in games and they can be detrimental. It's tough and it takes it out of you.

"Again, details that we've missed. I have my own jobs in the team but the flick on got to him in space."

Man United remain sixth in the Premier League table, now eight points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who can move into fourth spot in the division with a victory over Nottingham Forest in the late start.
