Manuel Pellegrini would thrive under the pressure of becoming the new boss of Manchester City, according to Malaga defender Oguchi Onyewu.

Malaga defender Oguchi Onyewu believes that Manuel Pellegrini would thrive under the pressure of becoming the new boss of Manchester City.

Pellegrini, who led Malaga into the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season, is expected to be named as the new manager of the former Premier League champions within the next week.

"He's a coach who is experienced, obviously he's coached some of the best names in the world, some of the best teams in the world. His record speaks for itself without anybody else having to do that," the American told reporters at a press conference.

"I just wish him all best in his future wherever he may sign, just because there's rumours everywhere. Wherever he ends up all the best."

City sacked Roberto Mancini last month.
