Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes that the club pulled off a bargain when bringing Gabriel Jesus to the Etihad Stadium last season.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has claimed that his side pulled off a bargain with the signing of Gabriel Jesus last season.

Jesus officially joined City in January and made a blistering start to his career at the Etihad Stadium, scoring seven goals in just eight Premier League starts during the second half of the campaign.

The Brazilian is expected to challenge Sergio Aguero as City's main striker next season, and Gundogan believes that the 20-year-old will continue to go from strength to strength for the club.

"He can be really good. He feels a bit like a bargain at the moment to be honest when you see the transfer market, this summer especially," he told ESPN.

"You just have the feeling that everything is going crazy, the clubs just spend huge amounts on players that have just played maybe their first seasons.

"We definitely paid for [Jesus's] potential as well, but I think he showed last season, and now in the friendlies and the training sessions as well that he's a fantastic player with a lot of potential – and he's only 20 years old."

City will begin the new Premier League season away to newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion on August 12.
