Liverpool's Mohamed Salah admits that everybody at Liverpool wanted to play Real Madrid instead of Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has admitted that everybody at Liverpool wanted to play Real Madrid instead of Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Los Blancos booked their place at the final in Paris on May 28 after recording a remarkable comeback win over the Premier League holders on Wednesday evening.

Rodrygo netted two late goals to take the semi-final tie to extra time, before Karim Benzema scored a penalty in the 95th minute to provide Real with a 3-1 win on the night, and 6-5 victory on aggregate.

Having already sealed their place at this month's final thanks to a 5-2 aggregate win over Villarreal on Tuesday, Liverpool preferred to face the La Liga champions over City according to Salah.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Egyptian said: "If you ask everybody [at Liverpool], everyone wanted that game. I don't know why we're not allowed to talk about it but I'm ok to talk about it - I wanted that game! I wanted to play Real Madrid before that game [against Man City].

"Of course, I'm not giving too much credit to them. They're an unbelievable team with a great coach, great players. When they asked me who I wanted, I said Madrid. It's an easy answer."

The May 28 game will be a repeat of the meeting between the two sides from the 2018 final, when Real recorded a 3-1 victory over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, in a game in which Salah was forced off injured in the first half following a challenge from Sergio Ramos.
