Brendan Rodgers hails "brilliant" Raheem Sterling

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers heaps praise on Raheem Sterling for the progress he has made since being handed his debut during their time together at Liverpool.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his pride over the progression that Raheem Sterling has made in recent years.

Rodgers introduced Sterling to regular first-team football during their time together at Liverpool, and the pair will renew their acquaintances when Celtic host Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Following a difficult debut season at the Etihad Stadium, Sterling has impressed so far this term under Pep Guardiola, and Rodgers heaped praise on the England international.

"I've been so proud to watch him. He's a great boy to work with and it's been great to see him grow from 17 years old as a player and as a person," he told reporters.

"He's really shown that with focus, he's a top-class player. He was brilliant for me. I'm looking forward to seeing him, but hopefully he doesn't play that well."

Sterling has scored four league goals in six appearances so far this season - just two fewer than he managed in 31 outings last term.
