Sergio Aguero's record vs. Liverpool

Ahead of Manchester City's trip to Liverpool in the Champions League, Sports Mole looks at Sergio Aguero's record against the Reds.

Manchester City head to Merseyside on Wednesday night for the first leg of an all-English Champions League quarter-final showdown against Liverpool.

Both teams have bagged goals for fun this term, seeing them lead the way by quite some distance in the Premier League scoring charts.

The Citizens may have to make do without one of their key men at Anfield, as Sergio Aguero has missed three weeks of action with a knee injury sustained in training, though boss Pep Guardiola remains hopeful that he will have his striker available for selection.

Here, Sports Mole looks at just how big a loss Aguero could potentially be if he fails to pass a late fitness test.

Aguero vs. Liverpool

The Argentina international is certainly no stranger to facing Liverpool, having done so on 18 occasions over the past decade.

Three of those matches came in his Atletico Madrid days, when playing the full 120 minutes of Atleti's 2-1 extra-time defeat to the Reds in 2009-10, a year on from a couple of 1-1 draws in the Champions League group stage.

Aguero failed to get off the mark on each of those occasions, and he only had one goal to show for his four outings against Liverpool in his maiden campaign at the Etihad Stadium, with that coming in a 3-0 home league win.

That record has since improved, however, as the 29-year-old has scored five in 11 since then in all competitions, none of which has come at Anfield.

In fact, Aguero has failed to score away to Liverpool in nine attempts for City and Atletico, coinciding with his current side's poor record on the red half of Merseyside.
