Jamaica vs. Trin. & Tob. - prediction, team news, lineups

For the second time in a matter of days, Jamaica will face Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly on Sunday, with this upcoming fixture taking place at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Kingston.

When these sides previously met on Thursday, the Reggae Boyz pulled out a late 1-0 victory, their first internationally since October.

Match preview

With fewer than 10 minutes remaining and chances few and far between on both sides, Jamaica found a way to pull out a narrow victory earlier this week.

That triumph ended a three-match winless run for Steve McClaren's men, who had lost their previous two games against the United States at the end of 2024.

It was also the first time they found the back of the net in a match on Jamaican soil since defeating the Dominican Republic 1-0 in a June 2024 World Cup qualifier from National Independence Stadium in Kingston.

Sunday will be their last match before returning to 2026 World Cup qualifying, as they prepare to face the British Virgin Islands and Guatemala in June.

Jamaica have not won consecutive matches since September to October of their 2024 CONCACAF Nations League campaign when they defeated Honduras (2-1) and Nicaragua (2-0) in a one-month span.

The Reggae Boyz have posted a clean sheet in four of their previous five meetings against Caribbean opposition, conceding twice in a 3-2 triumph over Dominica last June.

For most of Thursday's encounter, Trinidad and Tobago looked solid at the back but could not hold it together in the latter stages.

The Soca Warriors have now conceded in four successive international contests and have lost consecutive games for the first time since 2023.

Not since October 2018 to March 2019 have we seen the men's team suffer three consecutive defeats, though they are in danger of doing just that this weekend.

Dwight Yorke is still searching for his first victory as TNT manager, while this team have not won a match outside Trinidad since thrashing the Bahamas 7-1 in a June 2024 World Cup qualifier.

Trinidad and Tobago have not lost a match when scoring the opening goal in over a year but have also never won when conceding first since defeating the USA in a November 2023 CONCACAF Nations League fixture (2-1).

Before their defeat on Thursday, this team had gone unbeaten in their previous five matches against teams in the Caribbean.

Team News

For Thursday's fixture, Warner Brown collected his first cap with Jamaica, as did Kimoni Bailey, who were both in the starting 11.

A late strike from Sue-Lae McCalla was all they would need to defeat TNT as Jahmali Waite was back between the sticks and collected a clean sheet.

After a stint in Canada with Pacific FC, Trinidad could have Reon Moore back for this upcoming clash, joining team veterans Joevin Jones and Aubrey David.

Jones is fewer than 10 appearances away from 100, while Kevin Molino can equal Cornell Glenn for fifth in all-time goals with the men's team should he score on Sunday.

Jamaica possible starting lineup: Waite; Gordon, King, Cummings, Ainsworth; Phillips, Anglin, McCalla, Atkinson; Grant, Biggs

Trinidad and Tobago possible starting lineup: Phillip; Williams, J. Garcia, Jack, Hopesdales; Moore, David, Powder, Molino, Sween; D. Garcia

We say: Jamaica 0-0 Trinidad and Tobago

Neither side showed much quality or creativity on Thursday, and we expect a similar dull affair between two sides who will likely play it cagey before some important World Cup qualifying fixtures.
