Paul Jewell claims that he will not be spending big money to improve his Ipswich Town squad this summer.

Paul Jewell has revealed that he will not be improving his Ipswich Town squad this summer by spending big sums of money.

During a recent interview Jewell conceded that he required around six new additions to make his squad competitive next season.

However, the 47-year-old is adamant that he will have to reach that target without breaking the bank.

"We are looking for bargains," Jewell told the East Anglian Daily. "There definitely won't be any £3m signings.

"If I went to the chairman and said a player of that price would make the difference, I am sure he would back me. But there won't be too many big money moves in the Championship. Not when I hear there are 13 clubs in this league on the brink of administration.

"I am not naive, I know players won't come here for nothing. We will have to work harder to convince them that we will pay them when success arrives, not just for continued mediocrity."

The Tractor Boys ended the season 15th in the Championship table.
