Ipswich Town breeze past Shelbourne in pre-season opener

Brett Pitman scores a brace as Ipswich Town record a comfortable 6-0 victory in their first pre-season friendly of the summer against Shelbourne.

Ipswich Town recorded a comfortable 6-0 win over Irish side Shelbourne in their first pre-season friendly of the summer this afternoon.

The Blues took the lead inside a couple of minutes when Alex Henshall dribbled past three defenders and lashed high into the net.

Darren Ambrose doubled the lead for the visitors with a low finish midway through the first half and it was three before the break thanks to Cole Skuse.

Mick McCarthy put out a different Ipswich XI for the second half and summer signing Brett Pitman made it four from the penalty spot after new arrival Josh Yorwerth had been brought down in the area.

Goals in the closing stages from Tabb and Pitman put further gloss on the result for Ipswich, whose next friendly is against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday.
