McGoldrick targets early return

Ipswich Town top scorer David McGoldrick has said that he is planning on returning from injury earlier than expected to help the Tractor Boys' push for a spot in the Championship playoffs.

McGoldrick was ruled out for almost all of the season last month after damaging his knee ligaments in the final minute of the Blues' goalless draw against Blackpool.

The 26-year-old's rehab has gone as planned so far and he is targeting an earlier-than-expected return to action.

"I want to come back before the season ends and I want to play my part," he told the club website. "I'm desperate for the boys to stay in and around those playoff places and that will drive me on to get back even more.

"I'll be doing as much as I can to get back, whether that be doing double rehab sessions every day or whatever it takes, I just want to get back and help the lads out.

"They might not need me, as we've still got four great strikers at the Club. But I'm desperate to get back and help out with the playoff push."

With 13 games left of the season, Ipswich are in ninth place, four points adrift of the top six.
