Holt: Good cup run 'really important' and won't detract from league

Livingston go to Hearts on Sunday in the William Hill Scottish Cup.

Gary Holt is not worried about Livingston's William Hill Scottish Cup commitments derailing his side and their impressive league campaign.

The Lions travel to Hearts on Sunday hoping for a repeat of December's 5-0 hammering of Craig Levein's men.

Performances like that helped the Ladbrokes Premiership side end the first half of the season in seventh place.

As well as luring Rangers striker Ryan Hardie back for another loan stint, Holt has added Gregg Wylde and Chris Erskine to his squad as he looks to continue their promising form.

But he believes progress in the cup will boost rather than hinder his team.

He said: "A cup run is really important to us. In Scotland there aren't too many teams in the competitions so you know straight away that three or four wins and you're in a final. So why not give it a right go?

"People say a cup run can be detrimental to your league campaign but I don't believe that. Getting through the rounds breeds confidence and the more games you win the better.

"We want to go to Hearts and put in a performance than will hopefully take us into the next round.

"It's been well spoken about from people in their camp that they want revenge for the last time we played them. It's only natural, we're always looking for revenge whenever we lose a game.

"Looking back, though, they had a lot of injuries to their key players and there was also the sending off too. It was just one of those games where we were clinical and took every chance.

"It will be hard going there with their fans being right on top of us but we're big boys now and we know what will be needed to get a result at Tynecastle this time."
