Hartlepool United name Billy Paynter captain

Hartlepool United appoint newly-signed striker Billy Paynter as the club's captain for the new season.

Hartlepool United have named striker Billy Paynter as the club's captain for the 2015-16 football season.

Defender Matthew Bates was handed the armband for last season under former manager Colin Cooper, having joined the League Two side from Bradford City.

However, Ronnie Moore, who took charge of the side midway through last season, announced that Paynter will skipper the side, just over a month after he joined the club on a free from Carlisle United.

Hartlepool host Morecambe on the opening day of the new season.
