Neil Lennon admits he empathises with humiliated Hamilton boss Martin Canning after his Hibernian side dished out a 6-0 drubbing.
The Leith side racked up their biggest league win in 12 years as they crushed the hapless Accies at Easter Road on Saturday.
But Lennon took no pleasure in seeing his counterpart trudge down the tunnel at full-time, saying he had felt the same sense of shame after his Celtic side were ripped apart 6-1 by Barcelona back in 2013.
He said: “We’ve all been there. I remember being in Barcelona and being 3-0 down at half-time and I said to Charlie Mulgrew go on there and stop the bleeding. It was f*****g 4-0 after 46 minutes, so we’ve all been on the end of it.
“Of course I have sympathy for Martin but I am not patronising him, he’s done an amazing job and he’ll continue to do so.
“Pound for pound he’s getting results he really shouldn’t be getting. We were due a win today, so it was unfortunate for Hamilton.”
It was 10 years since Accies last failed to find the net at Easter Road but they surrendered meekly after missing an early Rakish Bingham chance.
And that left Canning fuming. He said: “We’ve proved in years gone by that when we come here and compete we can win.
“But what hurts me inside is that we didn’t compete. That should be the easiest thing in football. If you can’t pass the ball you can’t pass the ball. But if you can’t compete, you’re in trouble.
“Hibs were good to be fair but our aggression to go and get close wasn’t there.
“I think it would have been a different game had Rakish taken his early chance. It would have given us a bit of belief and made Hibs panic.
“But I’ve been on the end of poor results as both a manager and a player before and when you give a good team the chance to relax and enjoy it, you’re in big trouble and that’s what we did.”
