Paderborn secure first Bundesliga win

Hamburger SV are left shocked as SC Paderborn claim their first Bundesliga victory with a 3-0 win.

SC Paderborn have secured their first victory in the Bundesliga by beating Hamburger SV 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

A fairly uneventful start to the match was quickly forgotten in the 18th minute when Paderborn came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock as Rene Adler blocked Moritz Stoppelkamp's powerful effort, with the midfielder then firing over from the rebound.

The lead belonged to the Bundesliga new boys just before the half-hour mark in the first half, as Elias Kachunga reacted quickest during a goalmouth scramble to fire home the opening goal.

Kachunga thought that he had scored his second of the game moments later, but his joy was short-lived as the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.

The hosts started the second half on top, and were close to finding an equaliser when Zoltan Stieber collected the ball on the edge of the box, but Lukas Kruse made a good stop to protect his side's lead.

Paderborn had spent most of the second half on the back foot, but the visitors managed to double their advantage on a rare venture forward when Mario Vrancic beat the offside trap, before holding his nerve to slot the ball past Adler.

It was a convincing win in the end for Paderborn, with Moritz Stoppelkamp rounding off a successful day at the office by curling home his side's third goal in the 87th minute.
