Guinea-Bissau welcome Djibouti to the Estadio Nacional 24 de Setembro on Monday for matchday eight of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The hosts are looking to bounce back from a disappointing result against Sierra Leone, while the visitors head into the contest rooted to the foot of the group and still without a win in the campaign.
Match preview
Guinea-Bissau were left frustrated on Thursday after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sierra Leone, a result that all but ended their faint hopes of reaching the World Cup for the first time.
Kei Kamara gave the Leone Stars the lead on the stroke of half time, but Mama Balde struck in the 74th minute to rescue a point for Luis Boa Morte’s side.
That draw leaves the Djurtus with seven points from seven matches with only one win, four draws and two defeats - placing them fourth in the standings and nine points adrift of leaders Egypt, who remain unbeaten in the group.
Guinea-Bissau’s campaign began with a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso and a 1-0 victory over Djibouti, but a run of four winless matches, including defeats to Sierra Leone (3-1) and Burkina Faso (2-1), effectively dashed their qualification chances.
Djibouti, meanwhile, endured a nightmare outing last time out as they were thrashed 6-0 by Burkina Faso.
Their task became even harder when Yabe Siad Isman was sent off in just the 10th minute, leaving the Riverains de la Mer Rouge exposed.
Cyriaque Irie opened the floodgates for the Stallions, before Josue Tiendrebeogo doubled the lead while Edmond Tapsoba and Dango Ouattara added a brace to complete a dominant victory.
That defeat leaves Stephane Nado’s men bottom of the group with just one point from eight games, having scored only four times while conceding 26 - including consecutive six-goal concessions against both Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.
They crashed out of the preliminary stage of AFCON qualifying after a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Liberia.
It has been a torrid spell for Djibouti, who are winless in 10 consecutive games across all competitions.
History offers little encouragement either, with Guinea-Bissau having claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture despite playing with 10 men.

Team News
Boa Morte is expected to demand a stronger display from his side on home soil, with Balde likely to remain central to their attacking threat after his equaliser last time out.
The midfield trio of Bura Nogueira, Dalcio and Mamadi Camara could once again be tasked with controlling proceedings, with Carlos Mane also in the forward line.
For Djibouti, Yabe Siad Isman will serve a suspension after his early red card against Burkina Faso, forcing a defensive reshuffle.
Ahmed Youssouf Omar is in contention to start after coming off the bench in the last game, while Mohamed Konate may keep his place in the XI.
Despite recent heavy defeats, goalkeeper Liban Said is expected to retain his spot between the posts.
Guinea-Bissau possible starting lineup:
Ouparine Djoco; Encada, S. Mane, Cande, Imbeni; Nogueira, Dalcio; C. Mane, Camara, Balde; Beto
Djibouti possible starting lineup:
Said; Mohamed, Abdi, Osman; Houmed Bilha, Daher, Aden Djama, Y. Farada; Omar, Wais, Mahamed
We say: Guinea-Bissau 3-0 Djibouti
Djibouti’s defensive frailties have been brutally exposed throughout this qualifying campaign, and their lack of cutting edge in attack makes an upset highly unlikely.
Guinea-Bissau, while out of contention for qualification, should still have more than enough quality to claim a comfortable win on home soil.
