Joachim Low has chosen to name a fairly strong starting lineup for tonight's match, despite the Faroe Islands losing all seven of their matches so far. Among the starting XI is Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil, and Germany's joint-highest goalscorer Miroslav Klose.

173 places separate the two teams in the current FIFA rankings. Germany are second only to Spain, while tonight's hosts sit 175th, just above Chinese Taipei.

Sweden's win over Kazakhstan earlier this evening means that Germany cannot qualify for the World Cup finals this evening. A win for the visitors this evening would leave them five points clear of the second-placed side with two games left to play.

Elsewhere is group C this evening, Austria play the Republic of Ireland, with both sides needing a win to keep their hopes of reaching Brazil alive. You can follow Sports Mole's live commentary from that match here.

The majority of the Faroe Islands's squad play their club football in Scandanavia. The exception is goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen, who joined Motherwell this summer.

Ahead of this evening's game, Germany keeper Manuel Neuer told dfb.de that he likes to try to influence the game all over the pitch: "I try to intervene in the game as much as possible, and to speak to my team-mates. Who I manage to get hold of depends on the volume and atmosphere in the stadium. My job is to help the team as much as possible and I believe I have a pretty good understanding of the whole game. It's becoming more and more my responsibility to take corrective action if something goes wrong in the team."

As the players head onto the pitch there's just time for a quick prediction before kickoff. Realistically, I can't see this being anything other than a Germany win, the question is, how many goals will they score? I can see this being 5-0 this evening.

The visitors get the game underway.

CHANCE! It's an early opportunity for the home side as Edmundsson makes a superb run down the wing before crossing in to captain Frodi Benjaminsen, but the midfielder mis-cues, giving Neuer a simple stop.

Germany get their first spell of possession as Ozil and new club teammate Mertesacker play the ball through midfield, but Khedira is slow to pick up a pass from Schmelzer, allowing the visitors to clear the danger.

CHANCE! Khedira tries to make amends for his errors moments earlier, as Ozil slides to ball into the midfielder, who tries to drive the ball in from outside the penalty area, but his finish is inches wide.

The Faroes win the first corner of the match, as Neuer decides to take no changes, putting a ball into the box from Benjaminsen over the bar. The ball is whipped in in front of goal, but the keeper is able to punch it away before any of the home players can reach it.

Ozil tries to get himself into position inside the box, but the referee awards a free kick to the hosts as the Arsenal man shoulder charges into Davidsen. The visitors quickly win the ball back though.

CHANCE! Klose almost finds his 6th goal for his country with a powerful strike from the right of the goal, but Nielsen makes a good save to give Germany their first corner of the match, which the hosts manage to clear comfortably.

Lahm finds Muller on the edge of the box, who in turn looks for Klose, but Davidsen makes a superb block to break up the move. Khedira picks up the clearance and tries to play the ball back in, but Nielsen claims it.

Germany have certainly been in control in the opening 15 minutes, but the home side have given the German back four something to think about with a couple of high-paced attacks. Joachim Low's side still look more like scoring though.

CHANCE! Julian Draxler finds himself space in the box, but scuffs the turf as he tries to get his shot away, giving Nielsen a simple save. Germany quickly get the ball back into the box, forcing a corner, but Davidsen makes the clearance.

CHANCE! Nielsen makes another good save for the home team, as Ozil chips the ball in for Muller. Germany are looking so dangerous in front of goal at the moment, but the Motherwell keeper is looking sharp.

A Klose effort is denied by the post, but Nielsen bundles the ball behind for a corner while trying to clear. From the corner, the big Arsenal defender manages to climb high to volley the ball in for his third international goal.

Klose has another shot, and once again it ends up behind for a corner. This time Boateng looks to tap it in from the set piece, but the Faroe Islands have bodies back to make the clearance.

The Faroes have had a decent spell of possession in the last couple of minutes, but are struggling to penetrate the Germany defence. The visitors eventually win the ball back and straight away find themselves inside the penalty area, but Gregersen gets it clear.

CHANCE! Muller crosses the ball in towards Klose, who tries to head it into the bottom corner, but Nielsen manages to get down quickly to make the stop.

CHANCE! Schmelzer makes a brilliant run down the wing, winning a corner when his attempted cross is deflected behind. Draxler tries to curl the ball in from the edge of the box, but Nielsen spots the ball dipping at the last minute, and manages to punch it away.

Ozil tries to flick the ball on for Muller, but the ball ends up loose, before Nielsen gathers. Lahm looks for Muller moments later, but can't get the ball through. The move eventually breaks down when Klose is flagged for offside.

Suni Olsen tries an elaborate effort from just inside the Germany half. The shot was on target, but had no pace left by the time in reached the penalty area, giving Neuer the simplest of saves.

PENALTY APPEAL! Drazler is sent tumbling as he tangles with Gregersen inside the box, but the referee waves away his appeals. The visitors do get a corner from the incident, but the hosts manage to make the clearance.

BOOKING! Pol Johannes Justinussen is the first player to be shown a yellow card for rather rash challenge on Philipp Lahm.

Germany are continuing to build pressure in front of the Faroe Islands goal, winning their seventh corner of the half. Kroos curls it in, but the home side get it clear. Despite being a goal down, the Faroes really have defended well so far tonight.

Justinussen tries to get the better of the German defence on the counter attack, making a blistering run down the wing, but Mertesacker manages to get back to half the Faroe Islands midfielder. There's just one minute of stoppage time to be played.

Per Mertesacker's 23rd-minute volley separates the two sides at half time. In truth, Germany should probably be well clear of their opponents, having dominated the play, but the home side have defending superbly to keep themselves in the match at the break.

Let's take a quick look at the stats from the first half. Germany had a huge portion of the possession, seeing 77% of the ball in the opening 45 minutes. The visitors had 19 shots compared to the Faroe Islands three.

Klose has come, well, close to becoming to outright top goalscorer for his country, having levelled Gerd Muller's landmark of 68 last week. The closest of his efforts was thumped into the post, but it did lead to the corner, which set up the Mertesacker goal.

Germany have left their substitutes on the pitch at half time to warm up, which could indicate that Low is planning some changes early in the second half.

Elsewhere in group C, Austria and the Republic of Ireland remain level at half time, with no goals in the opening 45 minutes.

Germany continue from where they left off in the first half, immediately applying pressure inside the Faroes's half. Klose picks out Lahm out wide, who looks to cross the ball into the box, but his pass, aimed for Ozil, is blocked.

Lahm wins the ball back for Germany, and passes to Muller, who is brought down around 25 yards out. Benjaminsen gets a talking to from the ref for the challenge, but escapes without a yellow card. However, the visitors have a free kick from a dangerous position.

CHANCE! Ozil manages to lift his shot over the wall, and it looks to be dipping, before creeping just wide at the last moment.

Klose continues his search for his 69th international goal, but his strike is deflected wide by Davidsen for a corner, which Holst gets back to help clear.

The Faroe Islands are living dangerous at the back, passing the ball in front of goal between themselves. Ozil eventually intercepts their passing play on the edge of the box, but his pass to Muller fails to find its target.

Germany win the ball back in midfield, before Drazler tries to cross in for Kroos. His effort is initially blocked, but Schmelzer picks up the ball on the edge of the area, before winning a corner, but the home side's defence holds strong again.

Khedira tries to chip it forward for Muller, but the midfielder fails to turn towards goal in time, allowing Gregersen to clear. The Faroes manage to force Germany back inside their own half, but Khedira applies pressure with a long ball to Klose. However, the striker is flagged for offside, although replays suggest his was at least two foot behind the last defender.

CHANCE! Klose gets the ball to Draxler, who lines up a strike from inside the box, but Gregersen manages to puts pressure on the Germany midfielder, forcing him to scuff his shot to Nielsen.

The Faroe Islands try to play their way out from the back, but Holst is brought down near the half way line following a clumsy tackle from Schmelzer.

CHANCE! Holst manages to collect the ball inside the Germany penalty area and tries to lash it past Neuer, but the Germany keeper is alert and manages to make his first save of the second half.

CHANCE! Germany immediately go on the counter attack, almost finding their second goal of the match as Ozil crosses for Khedira, but his header is kept out by the post.

SUBS! The Faroe Islands send on some fresh legs bringing on Pall Klettskard and Christian Mouritsen in place of Daniel Udsen and Joan Edmundsson.

Germany are quickly back in the Faroe Islands half, and Kroos sends a looping cross in towards Klose, but the striker fails to control the pass.

CHANCE! Nielsen manages to stop an Ozil strike, but Draxler is there to bounce on the rebound. However he collides with the keeper instead of winning the ball.

RED CARD! Atli Gregersen is given his marching orders for bringing down Muller inside the penalty area. Ozil will take the spot kick.

The new Arsenal man makes no mistake from the spot, clinically slotting the ball past Nielsen, giving the visitors what should be a safe cushion against the 10-men of the Faroes.

SUB! With the points seemingly in the bag, Germany make their first change of the night, bringing on Chelsea's Andre Schurrle in place of Julian Draxler.

SUB! The home side make their final substitution, bringing on Hallur Hansson for Christian Holst.

CHANCE! Schurrle collects the ball inside the box, and tries to hit it first time with his first touch since coming off the bench, but Nielsen is able to make the stop.

SUB! There will be no record breaking goal for Klose this evening, as he goes off, allowing Max Kruse to take his place.

The home side have almost all of their players back defending as they try to keep some air of respectability around the scoreline. Schurrle breaks into the box again as Germany press for their third, but the striker is ruled to be offside.

CHANCE! Kruse goes for the spectacular with a curling effort from around 30 yards out, but Nielsen manages to keep sight of it all the way before making the stop.

Lahm sends in a brilliant cross from the right to find Muller charging into the box, before lashing home Germany's third of the night.

SUB! Muller's third goal will be his final act of this evening, as he makes way for Sidney Sam.

Sam gets a chance with his first possession since replacing Muller, but Nielsen continues what has been a reasonable evening's work in the Faroe Islands's goal, making a solid stop.

Germany are continuing to press, despite their 3-0 lead over the 10 men of the Faroe Islands. They patiently build the ball up in midfield before looking to deliver the ball into the box for Schurrle, but the home side make the block. Meanwhile, the fourth official indicates that their will be three minutes added on.

Nielsen tries to deliver the ball high up the pitch as the Faroe Islands try to score a late consolation, but the visitors quickly win the ball back and head straight down the other end, where Kroos tries to get a strike away, but finds Davidsen blocking the way.

Germany cruise to a 3-0 win over 10-man Faroe Islands to leave themselves with a five-point lead at the top of group C with just two games left to play.

In all fairness, Germany could have easily had a few more goals this evening, having twice been denied by the woodwork, while the home side's goalkeeper, Gunnar Nielsen, had a strong performance in goal.
