Matthew Leckie fires FC Ingolstadt 04 past Augsburg

Matthew Leckie's long-range strike guides FC Ingolstadt 04 to a 1-0 victory over Augsburg.

Matthew Leckie earned FC Ingolstadt 04 their second win of the season by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Augsburg.

The result means that Augsburg, who finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, are still waiting for their first victory after two losses and a defeat from their opening three games.

Ingolstadt created the better opportunities in a tight first half, and they were just a few inches away from taking the lead when Markus Suttner rattled the post with a free kick.

Marwin Hitz then came to Augsburg's rescue a few moments before the break with a fine save to keep out Moritz Hartmann's strike.

The breakthrough arrived just after the hour mark and Leckie ensured that Hitz was helpless on this occasion as he turned into space before picking out the top corner with a stunning strike from 30 yards.

Despite being second best for much of the match, Augsburg should have claimed a point but Tobias Werner somehow managed to miss the target with a free header from just a few yards out.
