Sergio Garcia escapes serious injury

Espanyol reveal that skipper Sergio Garcia escaped a serious injury in the latter stages of Saturday's 2-0 win at Malaga.

Espanyol have been boosted by the news that captain Sergio Garcia did not suffer a serious injury in their 2-0 win over Malaga on Saturday evening.

The Spaniard scored his side's second in the latter stages of the La Liga clash, but the goal came at a price following a collision with Malaga goalkeeper Carlos Kameni.

It was initially thought that the experienced forward could miss the next month, including the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Athletic Bilbao.

However, tests carried out earlier on Tuesday revealed that the striker's knee had only suffered a minor contusion.

Garcia is suspended for Espanyol's league clash with Getafe this weekend, but is expected to be fit for the home match against Cordoba on February 27.
