Rooney 'to skipper England' against USA

Wayne Rooney will reportedly captain England in a charity fund-raising friendly against the USA at Wembley on November 15.

Rooney called time on his international career in 2016, standing down having scored 53 times in 119 appearances for the Three Lions over the course of 13 years.

The 33-year-old has found a new lease of life at DC United in the MLS, however, managing 12 goals in 20 appearances to inspire the team into the playoffs.

According to The Sun, Rooney will now be rewarded with a one-off appearance against the USA that will see him earn his 120th cap for England.

The report adds that the game will also raise funds for the Wayne Rooney Foundation, which helps various children's charities including the NSPCC.

Rooney is England's all-time leading international scorer, four ahead of Sir Bobby Charlton.
