Ehiogu: 'Phil Jones shouldn't play in midfield'

Former England defender Ugo Ehiogu thinks that Phil Jones should remain in the back four as opposed to playing in midfield.

Former Aston Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu believes that Manchester United's Phil Jones should play for England as a centre back, as opposed to slotting into midfield.

The 19-year-old started for the Three Lions in the centre of midfield during the side's 1-0 win over the European and World champions Spain on Saturday.

Despite Jones having previous experience in that role, Ehiogu thinks that he should remain as part of the back four where he is strongest.

"I've seen Phil Jones and he has been outstanding at centre-half and on occasions right-back, so why not play him where he is best," Ehiogu told talkSPORT.

"It's a compliment to him that he can be put into midfield but you can't tell me there wasn't someone else that could have done a similar job."
